Photography lets me pick and choose moments in my memories to craft a narrative that recounts the world the way that I see it. It allows me to take my own perspectives and share them with others without saying a word. I’d like my photographs to distance the viewer from reality and feel something that I felt for a moment, something that will make them understand how I felt then, and have them feel it too. Photography is, to me,  the most powerful medium because it freezes an instant that would have otherwise been lost forever and allows us to relive that instant again, and again, and again. I use film as well as digital and believe that both can be very powerful when used carefully. My tumblr (cakephotography.tumblr.com) is all my original work, any reblogs are my photographs that were posted on my personal tumblr.

Socially Static is a bevy of vintage photographs. I post personal family snapshots as well as collected photos from antique stores and estate sales. Occasionally I take a dip into photo archives such as LIFE. I believe the vintage snapshot is original because of its inexhaustible anonymity that can be effortlessly relevant to a viewer’s experience.

Hello there,

Paulo Menezes here. Currently a student of Photography living in Durban, South Africa. I often find myself on the streets of Durban trying to frame portions of life in the city and surrounds, through the faces that occupy it.

Gear wise, I use a Nikon D90 with a 35mm fixed lens for most of my work. When I have more time I’ll load a roll of b&w into my Diana F.

The Colorado River has been the misused lover of many a mining corporation and troubled politician — but beauty always has a way of gracing even the most violent and unfortunate human offenses. It’s uncomfortable and comforting and discomfiting and sort of otherworldly when it does. Here, an aerial view, from Boulder photographer Jesse Varner, of evaporation ponds at the Potash Plant near Moab, Utah. Salts are mined and pumped up from deep below the surface, and the solution is concentrated in these evaporation ponds for extraction as a chemical fertilizer.
